enough to be of much assistance in geologic mappmg. The Martinsburg shales which flank several of the Jacksonburg aress on the northwest are quite insoluble, and form hills that rise from 100 to 300 feet above the Jacksonburg level. In some parts of the county the break in slope at the base of the shale hills in&c&s clearly the contact between the Jacksonburg and Martinsburg formations. In other places the slopes between the shale upland and the limestone lowland are gradual and irrewlar so that the topography is of little assistance in the accurate locat?on of geologic contacts. This is especially true where glacial drift mantles much of the pre-Illinoian topography. -

Stylolite networks in dolomitized limestones and their control on polished decorative stones:a case study from Upper Cretaceous Khur quarries, central Iran

Stylolite networks and their insoluble residues (IR) are among the major concerns and the fundamental controls on the mining and processing of sedimentary decorative stones, largely made from dolomitized limestones. They are mainly used, as natural rock blocks and polished slabs, to construct and decorate floors and walls of buildings and monuments. Representative quarries in Khur areas, east o...

Study and Kinetic Modeling of Direct Sulfation of Iranian Limestones by Sulfur Dioxide at High CO2 Partial Pressure

The direct sulfation of three high purity Iranian limestones and one precipitated calcium carbonate from different sources, containing more than 97 % CaCO3, were studied in a specially designed fixed bed reactor under atmospheric pressure, in the presence of excess CO2 to prevent decomposition of CaCO3. Experiments were carried out over a range of particle s...

Algae (Dasycladales) from the Upper Triassic Nayband Formation (northeast Iran)

Dasycladales are relatively abundant in the bedded limestones of the Bidestan and Howz-e Khan members of the Late Triassic Nayband Formation in central Iran. In a locality south of the town of Naybandan (northwest of Dig-e Rostam), several Rhaetian dasycladacean algae were found in thin sections. The following taxa are described: Diplopora phanerospora Pia, Naybandoporella rhaetica nov. gen. no...

Introducing some echinoderms from the Tirgan Formation, Kopeh-Dagh Basin, NE of Iran

A stratigraphic section from the Tirgan Formation was selected in Arkan village nearby Bojnourd city in order to study echinoderm fauna systematically. Many specimens of echinoderms, especially toxasteridae which is associated with brachiopods were collected and studied systematically in this paper. Microscopie slides were also prepared and studied. All slides contain benthic foraminifers and c...
